HISTORY - The Lotus Esprit was designed by Georgette Giugaro and was launched in 1975. Although there were three generations prior to this model, Lotus never named this model Series 4, instead it was known as the X180 and was launched in 1987 having been redesigned by Peter Stevens. The Esprit Turbo as per normal embodied Colin Chapman's philosophy of light weight body, independent suspension giving a superb power to weight ratio resulting in superb performance, even with a larger body than the Elan, it had a 0-60mph of 5.7seconds and a top speed of 150mph from a 2174cc engine. The Lotus Esprit was finally retired in 2004 with 10,675 being manufactured since 1975.
